Looking in to this I can see that google sync has been axed by google, is there anything to replace it?
Quick google shows this: http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/go...ip-work-with-your-google-calendar-in-outlook/
Another altenative work around which I've done is linking my Google account to my Outlook account, just to get my Google calendar to appear on Window 8's calendar app.
To use the google apps sync dont you need to be a paying google apps for business customer? or be using the google apps education. Therefore I didnt think it was a route open to me.

It's a total PITA which is why I moved from GMail to Office365.
Are you saying its a PITA because its chargable? If so, how does Office 365 change this?
Bit late but....
google calendar sync has been 'discontinued' by google but it still works, I'm using it fine with outlook 2010, it's just not being updated anymore.
The version I'm using is 0.9.4.1 and you can find it fairly easy with a google search
Seeing as you need this for android it would likely be quicker to change your 'calendar' to something like hotmail/office.com and then use another app on your phone which supports hotmail too.
I had the fun of trying to sync up windows 8 (ie hotmail), outlook and android calendars.
I ended up using hotmails calendar as my default calendar in office which automatcially syncs with windows 8 built in calendar. I then use google sync to sync up with my android phone.
Having said that the calendar I use actually supports hotmails calendar so it might be quicker to change calendar provider.

I'm using business calendar, it has free and paid versions... here's the free one if you want to try itwhat caendar are you using on your phone? I have been using whatever samsung provided, but seeing as it is something I should be using a lot I would be happy to pay for an upgrade.
I'm using office 2010 pro (64 bit versions) on windows 8 pro x64 and I don't get the issue you do, I never had on 7 x64 either.I find on 64 bit systems running office 2010 or 2013 if you do not have outlook open the sync tool will pop up on the screen prompting for which outlook profile to use (used to boot me out of games).
I have since moved my business email to office 365 from google apps free.
