Can I throw CD-ROM discs in a bin at home?

Hmm... I get 818.1818181818182... I seem to have picked up a little extra in my calculations. Have I done something wrong, or is that just me not factoring in the formatting overhead? :D

I couldn't find the symbol for recurring decimals so I rounded to 8 dp's instead of your 13 :p

The whole "recycling" thing is farce in a lot of councils. I've watched bin trucks turn up at work and just chuck everything in together. I don't know why we even bother having separate bins :/

c-c-c-combo breaker

CDs and DVDs are non-biodegradable and contain toxic chemicals and metals that can contaminate the environment if landfilled. Instead, CDs and DVDs can be repaired or recycled to recover resources.

All types and formats of CDs and DVDs can be recycled, enabling the recovery of valuable resources such as polycarbonate (a type of plastic) and aluminium for reuse in the manufacture of other products. Disc recycling processes can recover about 98% of the original disc as reusable material. Many damaged CDs and DVDs can also be reconditioned, allowing them to be reused or resold.

Do not, I repeat DO NOT throw them in the general waste, our neighbour did last month and as a result the refuse collectors in Birmingham have been on strike for weeks, we haven't had any rubbish collected for over three weeks now and the Council are basically telling everyone "tough ****"

Good on them, it's when they stop working that people realise just how bad it is without them. ;)

Why are they leaving the rubbish on their street? Last time the binmen went on strike, people dropped all their bin bags off outside the local council lol.

With all the risk. Of decimating the environment. As illustrated above, you could use them as novelty bagel plates?

Your loved ones will think you akin to a demi god when you throw open that kitchen door with 5,yes 5, bagels on one hand!

I honestly can't tell which are the silly answers and which are the sensible ones....

Are there any sensible ones? :D
I just lobbed a heap of hd-dvds in the bin last night as I needed their cases for storing BD-R's. I'm not sure what to believe now!
