I haven't built a PC now for around 5 years. I'm currently using an I5 with a GTX670 OC on an old (15years or so) 24 inch Dell monitor (1920x1200) which has served me well.

I am in the middle of completely redoing my gaming room, new desks, painting etc etc and was thinking about replacing this aging Dell monitor for a super widescreen. I don't game very often now apart from a bit of battlefield 2 but I do still enjoy occasional games like COD and battlefield 1.

If i upgrade to widescreen would i be completely wasting my time with the GTX670OC?.. I am thinking of something like this...

or would a 29inch be better?

Input/advice would be much appreciated.

OK firstly I highly commend your decision to get a new monitor. I think you will be really gobsmacked at how much better they are than your Dell.
Personally, I love IPS monitors. They often suffer from screen bleed but I never really notice that over the amazing colours and wide viewing angles. The generally accepted wisdom on this is that 29" is the ideal size for an ultra 2560x1080. 34" just goes a little too far, and the image is a bit pixelated. Having said that, they are better for games if your activity is mainly game playing. Size counts for games. So if you are a 90% games player then get the 34" if you also work on the PC then it may be worth considering the 29" instead.
Size and refresh rate are important for gaming. Refresh rate basically makes it smoother. The 34UM69G or 29UM69G are only a little more expensive but offers a higher refresh rate.
I think your graphics card will be OK with that resolution, but it's no rocket. But if a game won't run at acceptable speed you can always step down the resolution. Basically if you consider it slightly less powerful than a current 1050. That's OK but really I would be happier if you had a 1060.
Personally, I would buy the 29UM69G and use the remaining money as a base for a new graphics card down the line, but honestly it would be just as valid to buy the 34UM69G monitor and consider the graphics card later.

The only issue with that is height of the screen. Drop from the Dell to a 29" in height is massive (I had a 24" 16:9 which ish the same vertical height as 29" Ultra Wide) and found it way too restrive and pretty annoying as you had to do far more scrolling.

what a brilliant comparison site!!.. thankyou hornetstinger. I think based on that i'm leaning towards the 34inch and as Pocah says I'll upgrade graphics if i feel its needed. Appreciate the input from both of you, very helpful :)
