Can I use a Raspberry Pi 2 as a media server?

I currently transfer my video files from my PC then onto a USB stick then plug that into my TV. It's not the most convenient way of doing things as I'm constantly plugging and unplugging the USB stick.
I have an old Raspberry Pi 2, can I set this up so I can download files straight on to this and use it as a server to access it from my smart TV's or Firesticks?

Thanks :)

Can't you just stream right from the pc to the tv and basically cut out the middle step of using the raspberry pi?

Most recent tv's have a network port and the ability to stream from dlna servers, if not the firestick with the plex/jellyfin/some other dlna app should work.

Personally I've used serviio on my pc and the built in playback on my tv for ages and it works fine, it's not as pretty as plex but it's no worse than the usb approach you've been using.
