Can I use a router as a wireless access point

So another question I'm completely unsure about...

I use a BT Wifi hotspot, which requires me to login via a website. Thankfully once logged in it works fine.

Now obviously I have a few other wireless/wired devices, TV, XBOX, DS etc. I have an old router, is it possible for me to connect to the router (which is in the hall) via the internet connection that is on my PC and share that then round my room via a wireless router.

I don't think it will work, or how I would even go about it.

Any ideas?

Possibly.

Windows Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) should allow you to share your PC's Internet connection via its wired network port. I'd try to get that working with a single wired device as a first step. Google should turn-up plenty of guides on configuring ICS which should at least get you started.

If you can get the above working then adding wireless shouldn't be too difficult. Turning any router into an access point isn't very complicated (Google router as access point). In the worst case you'd just need to buy a suitable wireless device for about £20.

I know how to share the internet connection, do it all the time with my laptop to my Xbox.

I guess its a case of giving it a bash, even not being wireless would be fine.

I.E Wireless to PC - wired to router then router to TV, PS3 and Xbox would be great.

Yes you can. I do it.

Switch off DHCP on the WAP router, give it the same wifi configuration but on a different channel, eg 1 and 11.

Run a patch lead from a lan port on the router to the same on the wap.

Did you read beyond the thread title?

OP wants to share the internet connection they get from a wireless hotspot that requires a web based login.
