Stupid question alert. Reposting here as no luck in the network or Mobile forum

I've got one of those Orange mobile wifi devices which creates your own mobile wifi hotspot with a 500mb per month sim plan.

http://shop.orange.co.uk/mobile-broadband/wifi/Orange+Mobile+WiFi

Ok so now I've got an Ipad 1 3g, I've taken the sim out and cut it down to micro size, stuck it in the ipad and got Orange 3G showing in the carrier at the top. All good.

When I try Safari though it says 'Could nor activate cellular data network you are not subscribed to a cellular data service'

Any ideas ?

Many thanks

Have you rebooted the iPad since installing the SIM?

If in doubt, tap "reset network settings", and try again. You'll need to add any Wi-Fi networks again though.

Hi i had same problem only difference was that i used my iphone sim that i cut down and used in the ipad.

That never worked so i rung my provider and they said that wouldn't work it recognises that it is a sim as a mobile you have to use a different sim and set up a plan on the ipad i cant use another sim.

So i don't think yours is going to work that way you will need a separate plan. Hope that is some help

Thanks - mine is a data sim though, was being used in an Orange mobile wifi hotspot device.

As above bizarrely for some reason it started working and has done since so yes it can be done :)

The mobile wifi data plan I'm on with Orange is pay monthly 500mb which is £5 a month as I'm an existing customer so not bad value really and enough for what I will use the ipad for..

It's non of the above, u don't need a diff sim, change the apn settings (usename and password ) which is on oranges website. I use a O2 payg sim I cut down. Tenner a month unlimited net then just keep goin until i used my credit...then top up again, ding another month unlimited then keep goin until use credit etc...
