I recently bought a laptop and it had Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed on it.
Can I use the serial code of the OS for my gaming PC that I'll be getting next week? And if yes, is it the one at the bottom of the laptop or is it the one when you go on My Computer, right click and properties?

Not technically illegal, you'll be breaking the EULA (End User Licence Agreement.) When you buy a prebuilt system the Windows licence you get is what you call OEM. long story short an OEM Windows licence is tied to that specific computer, defined as the motherboard, and can't be moved to another computer. You can upgrade most components (RAM, Graphics card, hard drive etc)
and still obide the EULA. If you change the motherboard you should buy another licence.

If you buy a retail copy in a nice pretty buy you're allowed to transfer the licence to as man machines as you want, as long as it's only installed on one machine at a time! :)
