If you are self made, ie started off modestly and ended up with a very comfortable financial life, then yes I think you can buy happiness to a degree. If you came from a working class background and won £10m overnight then I dont think you could buy happiness as the pressure would be too much.

it doesn't garantee hapiness but it makes it much more likely.
regardless of material items you have more time to develop relationships as you don't have to work, yet don't get bored because you can do anything you want, sure eventually you will run out of things but it would take longer than a homeless person.
or if you wanted, you could become good at investing and double your money. which with not much effort means you can do even more crazy stuff.
