My Google skills have failed me on this one. I'd like my Desire Z to be able to access my PC over wifi for easy file transfers (and possibly sync?). My friend's Samsung can do it using the Kies app, but HTC Sync doesn't have any such feature.

ES File Explorer has a LAN tab so you can access publicly shared folders etc. As long as the folder is shared then you can access it.

As for syncing theres a few wireless sync apps out there that will sync with your itunes library, but I dont know which are good and bad as I dont use them.

Use "MyPhoneExplorer", you need the app on your phone and the program on your PC. I have mine set to sync as soon as I plug it into USB (the app autostarts). Can sync all calendar entries, contacts, photos, videos, texts etc as you choose :).

I did discover ES File Explorer myself in my travels, and seemed to do exactly what I wanted at first, but it's very quirky. For instance, it lets the phone connect to my desktop just fine, but not to my netbook, which it asks a username and password for (and if I check the "anonymous" box it won't let me on)! The netbook is on Windows 7, don't know if that makes a difference, but it's on the same workgroup and the desktop can see it just fine (and vice versa).

Every once in awhile, ES won't let me connect to the desktop either, it just comes up with a strange error message (which I really should've copied down in retrospect)! I don't know if it's ES that's flakey or my network, which is why I asked for suggestions, wanted to see if I'll get the same problems with anything else.

I don't suppose there's a way to make the phone show up on my PC's "My Network Places" and let me access it from here, would it? Can I only do it the other way round, with the phone as a client accessing the PC's shared folders? No reason for asking other than the convenience of copying stuff off the phone with a keyboard and mouse rather than using the touchscreen :)
