Hi guys. Im playing CS:S atm and getting pretty good fps but i would really like to get one of either mw2 or bc2 however i want to ensure my graphics card will handle it ok on my resolution (1920x1200).

This is my setup:
Sapphire HD3870 1gb
Q9550 @ 3.2ghz (can easily push further if need be)
GA-X48-DS5
Corsair dominator 6GB 1066 ram

Any input would be awesome as im fingers crossed looking to make a decision on one of these games if i can play them.

Cheers.

I think it might handle mw2 better but I'd still be inclined to consider a gpu upgrade. A 5850 would be a nice jump up from your current card.

You could try the games out before you commit to making a purchase but I can't seeing it handling it at that res.

A gpu upgrade would certainly help, particularly with bc2, (much better game too btw), rest of the system will be grand. 5850 would definitely be a good choice.

Save your money for bc2 patch day :P

Your system should be ok, just don't turn on all the bells and whistles.

Can I just ask: 6gb on a dual channel system eh? How is that setup?

there is 4 slots for ram on my mb and i have 2x1gb sticks and 2x2gb sticks. could you reccomend me a 5850 so i can start saving. also what do you rekon i could fetch for my gpu 30 quid? thanks for the feedback

I played MW2 all the way through on my 3870, no trouble at all - 1920x1200 high settings etc. No idea about BC2 though, I'm afraid.

It will run MW2 fine, my aging 8800GTS runs it fine as the games optimised very well and I have a much older CPU

However BC2 I have to force DX9 and run with 50% low 50% medium settings with no AA and its still gets choppy but I reckon your system will run it better than mine

My old man has not far off same ish system :p
And we was playing bfc2 last night on his 5970 lol maxed out..
@ only at 2.7ghz. run really well. so a nice clocked 5850 to your setup will be fine :) but 4aa x 16af @ 1680 x 1050 with my 5850 was spot on. habo whaterver you call it, keep that off. that kills fps big time.

but with the 5970, i could run 1920 x 1200 8x aa 16 x af habo on nice and smooth. well sometime when a huge explosion happens real close, the fps would dip and bit :D
I have a i7 setup, as i thought thats what i need to run bfc2. i was wrong.
My old mans Q9450 runs it just fine.

His setup/
Q9450
Abit IP35 Pro XE
OCZ Gold Edition 4GB
Corsair HX 1000W
5970

I have both games and play them on a 3870x2.

My resolution is 1920x1200, I play mw2 on near max with some of the obtions on high rather than extreme (or what ever is above high)

BFBC2 I play at native resolution but only on medium.

I plan to upgrade my gpu, but Im gona wait till after the summer.....

Id recomend the 5850 for price/performace, or if you want the best get a 5870.

The gtx 470 over all, is no better than a 5850 performance wise, but costs the same as a 5870, and the gtx 480, is expensive, runs like a thermonuclear reactor and uses more electricity than Zeus himself!

Thanks for the info guys. My plan of action is going to be buy mw2 and save for a 5850 which will probs take me a few months but ive got a few bits and bobs i can sell and 2 old pcs that i can combine to make a half decent machine to sell. Also j/w whats the crack with the members market on here? is it 250 posts of 3 months or something? Thanks again.

250 posts and 6 months, or 100 and 1 year I think. MW2 will give best results with your current system, and as for a 5850, either this or this. The 2nd one includes MW2 so if you want to buy that now, obviously that's not the one to get. The Asus allows you to adjust voltages so will give more room for overclocking, but the reference cooler isn't quite as good as the others (but would be fine tbh)

A mate of a mate i selling a 4870 512mb and hes asking for £75.00 i think that may be a tad high but if i could get him to £55 would that be a decent solution/deal?

I wouldn't bother, not with the resolution you play at. When you up the graphics settings in some games you'll be restricted by the lack of memory the card has. If it was a 1gb model then that would be different.

Ok thanks for the quick reply. Im just going to bite the bullet and save up for a 5850 then not have to worry about my setup for a while.

bc2 medium settings with a 3870 @ 1920x1200 was fine for me but my card was a pile of doodoo and kept overheating. If yours is stable then it should be fine.

i upgraded to a 5850 and clocked it. run everything on max aa and high detail now. smooth as butter.

im going to get some software for checking gpu temps. ive only recently got into pcs and have been concentrating on overclocking and stablising my cpu havnt really batted an eye towards the gpu. thanks mana atleast now i know that i can run bc2 for the mean time if my gpu isnt a hot one! what are decent idle and load temps for graphics cards
