Hi, been running my i5 [email protected] on an Asrock z68 extreme 4 gen3 with no issues since it was new a few years ago.

I have been having trouble booting where the power would just cycle a few times then boot up. Then would not boot, reset the bios and will now no longer overclock.
When i change a setting in the bios it just reverts back to original e.g will change multiplier to 42 then will just flick back to 37 max.

I have updated the bios and still the same, i read in another forum that later versions of the bios give ivy bridge support and could effect my cpu.

This cannot be right can it?
Any help would be appreciated

CPU degradation is a real thing and you may have damage mob or CPU... You may say that it was well cooled but what about power section on motherboard, ram, chipset and so on those thinks happens. You can try running your PC with only on stick of RAM and try OC, change battery on mob as it may have a problem with keeping settings other than that you would have to test all the part to see if one is faulty.

If it works with 1 stick what does this mean?
Bios profiles save but when I'm actually in the bios as soon as I move off the adjustment it reverts back. Ordered a battery anyway.

After updating BIOS I would never risk using save settings you never know what they did change and is not that long of the process to redo all settings.

My dad unplug his PC for 2 weeks over xmas just now. When he came back all settings where lost and it corrupted registry in windows I had to reinstall windows and reconfigure BIOS again. All that because of dead battery on mob.

A flat battery is something that i have never encountered and DO NOT want to ever encounter as it sounds likes a nightmare.

I don't think it's dead, surely the changes I save in the bios would wipe if the battery was dead

Yes and no... I know when I did want to restore BIOS by removing battery and sometimes it took couple hours for it to happen and some time it was minutes... So yeaaa:D

Searching forums and I can see that the locked multiplier at 37 is a common problem caused by the BIOS chip, which has become corrupted. Apparently need to get in touch with asrock for a new chip.
Worth a shot.

OK, problems solved inserted new bios chip and now everything is back to normal :)
In 15 years building my own pc's i have never had a corrupt bios or an asrock board for that matter. There seems to be a few asrock boards with the same problem.
