Can somebody explain 'the cloud' for the hard of thinking!

OK. If I go into McDonalds or somewhere that advertises a wifi hotspot and I log on am I going to get shafted somehow? I'm on an Orange Panther deal if it makes any difference.

As far as I know, its just a countrywide WiFi service that is available at McDonalds etc.

You connect to it, then make an account and log in. Just as you would at home, just you don't have a Username/Password there :p
 
Mcdonalds provides free wifi for customers. This is wifi and nothing to do with your network.
 
Not sure about Orange but with o2 you just enter your phone number on the start page to get wifi access (the cloud is just a public wifi provider, some companies like McDonalds choose to offer it free, so no need for your phone number)
