Hi all

This is a upto 20MB sky BB connection , but only gets about 8MB. Is there anyway to get a better faster speed?

It looks about right given the line attenuation and noise margin (it’s the low side already).

What was Sky’s estimated speed?

Have you tried connecting to the master socket test connection to see if there’s any room for improvement with the local wiring?

It's about the most you'll get and remain stable. Kitz says you get 7552 kbps so you are a little bit above that.

If 4.9 dB SNR is constant throughout the day then you are lucky to get that speed as Sky normally aim for a target SNR of 7.0.

Hi I'll try and check plugging directly into the test socket.

Is there any software I can use to record / track / log the s/n ratio?

Routerstatslite or routerstats depending on which router it is.

When set up it'll log your connection speed, SNR and stuff throughout the day do you can see fluctuations.

Did you go abot plugging it into the test socket? I saw minor improvements when I did that, it removed the two unused sockets elsewhere in the flat.

Like TealC said 7.0 is Sky's target for noise margin, I don't think you're likely to get any improvements on top of that. I would probably try my best not to turn that router off though, I find if my noise margin isn't 7dB it automatically resyncs and adjusts the speed for that up or down.

it's actually my friends router. He hasn't tried it yet. He was previously with o2 and the downlaod speed was into the 800KB range, with Sky high 700s is the fastest it has been so far.
