I just bought a Belgian beer, Fruli strawberry beer just to give it a try, as i took the lid off theres brown on the underside of the lid and you can wipe it away but ive never seen this before and was wondering what it is and is the beer safe to drink?

Just something ive never seen before on the inside of a lid would be nice to know if its alright to drink and what it is

With wheats and non filtered beers you get all sorts of debris in there, most recommend turning the bottle a few times to dissolve it again. Did the beer smell bad?

I drunk it, it smelt fine i was just wondering what it actually was as i had never seen that in a bottled beer before, thanks to all the people who gave some info :)

The bottle was likely stored on its side for a while. Lambics usually have gunk at the bottom of the bottle - it will have just migrated to the lid whilst laid on its side. Nothing to worry about unless the beer tasted of vinegar.
