It’s been said that comedy = tragedy + time. It’s a while since anyone was killed by a Roman soldier, but we have people alive today who suffered at the hands of the Nazis, or who still suffer the KKK today. The miner’s strike is equally fresh in some parts of the country.

Nazis, the KKK, and the minors strike aren't even on the same scale tho.
I remember hurting my thumb yesterday; I guess I've suffered the same as someone who remembers the holocaust...
Surely we can't put them all in the same pile; this all-encompassing "things people don't remember fondly" pile that we're not allowed to parody? Otherwise nobody is allowed to make fun of me hurting my thumb. It's tragic and I will be super offended if anyone takes it lightly.

Universities these days aren't just liberal, there leftist / fascists. That's why.

The issue is probably because even though people where upset.. the miners strikes where illogical, they had to be closed.
I imagine the "outcry" is something to do with the ridiculous "leftie" mentality rife across universities nowadays that give things like anarcho-communism, Marxism, general socialism (yes i know i could group them), and social justice a platform.. And the mentality behind those who supported the miners strikes are not so dissimilar to these groups.. I.e. putting feelings ahead of actual reality.

The economic effect is still being felt today. The mining jobs went and nothing replaced them. Whole communities have been gutted.
The outcry came from the The Durham Miners' Association. I doubt they're the kind of leftie university-type that you're imagining.

The opening argument was that it’s fine to laugh about the miner’s strike, so I can only assume you think it’s on the thumb side of the line. I dare say a great many people would disagree with you, but you’ve decided their opinion doesn’t matter, even as you decide that your opinion on how bad the holocaust was actually counts for something.
When I was at Durham uni the rugby players made a game of sticking cherries up their bums and eating them. What larks.

I’m sure that’s a lot of comfort to the communities gutted by the loss of their mines... That kind of argument is all brains and no heart. Perfectly correct and no help to anyone except those trying to justify things.

And we still don't learn from history. What left of our steel industry is always under threat of closing up, ship docks where we would build ships for the world have closed up and our fishing industry is also hurting.

Pfft at Nottingham the initiation ceremony for the rugby team involved been striped naked and crawling through a tunnel made of upturned chairs with a lighted toilet roll up your bum while the other players ****** and threw puke over you.
What can be done to help though? Unavoidable things are unavoidable, the only thing that could be given in response is charity or in some circumstances some form of compensation. If it wasn't a tory government closing the mines, it would have been a labour one.
