other than that I would suggest formatting or as I and probably most do, have an image of your OS drive
I have learned from past mistakes that once you have a virus / been hacked / have bad spyware its much easier re-installing your OS drive then trying to remove the problem
...and some viruses are (or at least have been in the past) known to physically destroy hard drives - so yes, turn off / pull network cable is favourable
Personally I used Windows 7 backup and restore to create a ~60gb OS image on another drive and have a Windows startup CD to boot and load the image. It takes me ~5mins to backup and another 5 to restore. Much easier than arsing around with xyz virus scanner / malware / spyware removal / hotfixes etc. - and its also free. Programs like Acronis are good but cost money. Win7 built in backup/restore is easier to use and works fine
