Took this yesterday of my best friends dog and while he was taking him for a walk today, he was hit by some a***hole teenage scum on a motorbike who just rode off without even stopping.

The vet had to put him to sleep due to his injuries and obviously he, his wife & little boy are gutted. So I thought I might give them a little bit of something to remember him by.

Anyway my editing skills are no way up to this so I thought I would ask here. Basically the fence post is ruining the shot and drawing the eye away from the subject. Is it possible to remove it?

Any help / advice you guru's could offer we be greatly appreciated.

imo, nothing is harder in PS than trying to mask fur or hair.

I've got a training DVD at work that tells you how to do it and replace the background but I haven't tried it out yet.

If no-one has done it by tomorrow afternoon (and if I can get some time) I'll be happy to have a go for you.

Heart goes out to the family, specially the child. :(

:)

crop in quite tight and then burn the post in a bit to darken it- do this all round to bring focus to the dog, quick sharpen, job done

I think that there is a plugin for photoshop floating around on the internet somewhere which is specifically for masking out / around hair (it being blurred or not)

I've used it before and it tends to work pretty well. My attempt would be to just select around the dog, get rid of the background and put a different one in - more easy than cloning out the fence post imho. I'll have a go at it tomorrow if someone else doesn't beat me to it ^^

It's sad to here about what happened to the dog though :(

Thanks for the advice guys.
Cheers for the edit Mr Grubby quite a result for a quick attempt I might use that if a crop doesn't look right.

I'm going to try a few crops later today and see what they look like.

Some heartless people out there.

Anyway had a bit of a play, think the post is a little less intruding now? I've worked on the full size version so click on the thumbnail and then on the picture it brings up to view full size.

Cheers Andy, quite like it and might use that for a crop, rather than the original.

I've also had a play using Mr blurry's advice and come up with this. Anybody think it works?

Maybe a touch bright at the top of his head but other than that I don't think you're going to get much better.

Utter scum on the bike, I feel sorry for the little kid :( Hopefully they get another dog he loves as much.

Slightly oversaturated, I'd decrease the yellow and orange luminescence slightly

my thoughts as well. makes the dog look like he has been fake tanning a little too much. also there is a small square on the left hand side of the picture that is in focus still and is catching my attention. it's under where the fur starts coming in again on his right ear.

Missed that, I'll knock the sat down and get rid of that square. Looking at it on my Dell 2409w now and it does look over processed.

I did the edit on my laptop which doesn't have the best screen to be fair.

The idea was probably right but the execution slightly off perhaps.
