Hi,

I got home from lectures this afternoon to find my computer completely unresponsive, had to reboot. Windows recommended that I run Chkdsk, lo and behold a bunch of errors turn up about "orphaned files". I don't understand what that means, but I'm worried that one of my drives is about to fail. Can anyone explain what these mean and whether I need new drives?

Checking file system on C:
The type of the file system is NTFS.

One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency. You
may cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommended
that you continue.
Windows will now check the disk.

what wazza said but as you have only run chkdsk i would recommend chkdsk /r
to see if you have any bad sectors(providing its a mechanical drive)
