havent done this in AGES and really cant remember what i did last time

i have started running out of space, my new hard drives came through the mail today

really happy with them but...

i could do with a guide of how to move my games folders [including all of my saves] over to the new drives and then how to get them working again in the same way they were before...

anybody give me a few pointers?

cheers

hi mark!
no i want to keep the old one - its a raptor 32gb so it has os and a few games

gonna just have it as OS and put my games on one of my new WD 640GB caviar Blue

i know i have done it before then reinstalled the game but using the new file location

but i cant remember how i did it

copy all the game folders from the program files onto the new HDD ?

assuming both HDD's are plugged in at the same time ?

This is proberbly not the correct way to do it but it works :D

i have done copies onto the new HDD but they dont work - i dont know weather i should install the game again but point the installation path to where the new copy of the game is... /confusion

I think you might struggle to keep the same install as most games have all these stupid hidden files. If its only a few, id reinstall, and then copy the folder off the old game across to the new folder, overwriting the saves (some saves will be in the game folder, others will be in my documents), if its the ones in my documents, when you uninstall the game, just backup the saves and reapply them afterwards.

my head hurts

- when i did this last it was on xp - made it a lot easier

anybody else tried it?

really dont want to do it and lose everything on COD4 - the rest dont matter too much

i don't think it would work, as most games install data in the registry, then again you could copy the whole registry to the new HD but it could turn into a complete mess. Best do a HD clone, saving the 32GB HDD for something else. You can also partition the new HD to separate space eg. 100gb for OS/installs.

Best to google specific games "where is the save folder" and make sure u make a copy of that before uninstalling. Then copy it after reinstall (some games u may need to run once after reinstall to create the right folder).

Never understood why the unlocks for COD4 are saved on your own PC rather than on a server like in BF2.

Have you installed all your games into a separate folder i.e. C:\Games\ ? If so then you should be able to move the contents of the folder onto the new disk, then mount the disk in the Games folder.
