Ok so I am a first time custom pc builder so far my computer is able to boot up and run just fine with my intel i3 2120 processor with Intel HD2000 graphics but when ever I try to install my graphics card the monitor won't turn on.
Here are the steps I take:
1. Uninstall any display drivers (intel graphics)
2. Boot into safe mode and wipe any trace of the display driver using disk sweeper
3. Wipe any registries using CC cleaner
4. Go into bios and set primary display boot to PEG(PCI Express graphics)
5. Disconnect the power, ground my self and install the GPU (XFX HD6870)
6. Connect the monitor cable to the GPU and boot up
Then this is where nothing happens. Even when I swap the cable(for the monitor) between the GPU and the motherboard nothing shows on screen. But when I shut down the pc and remove the power cables(the PSU cables leaving the GPU connected to the motherboard) and have the monitor cable attached to the GPU there is a display on the screen(plus a loud jet engine noise from the fan running at full speed) and I can login, detect my XFX radeon card and install drivers and even overclock it. This is the only condition it will work under(kind of) and even if I try setting it up normally with the AMD drivers preinstalled nothing appears on the screen but the system boots
.
Special note: I did manage to get the GPU working with it set up properly(everything connected properly) at one point and managed to install the graphics driver but on the reboot, due to the drivers, the display stop working again. I'm not sure how I managed this but it only seemed to work for one boot but then on the next reboot the display refused to show
.
I'm not sure what I am doing wrong here but I know it can be the fault of any of the components or even any mechanical damage done by me to the GPU since I took extra care installing it. Could it be that the card is obviously faulty and I can claim for a new one or do I have to prove its faulty or I am doing something obviously wrong?
