in that pic you can see that the psu is up side down, does it need to be like that when in the bottum of the case? thats the way mine is currently but i want to turn it over as it would be a lot better for cable management and the corsair lable wouldnt be the rong way up.

on my case there is 2 little steps on the bottum where the psu goes to lift it from the floor of the case, is that enough space do you think?

thanks in advance.

p.s sorry for stealing the pic;) hope you dont mind

Hiya,
I think you're better off asking can a psu be used anyway up/down/sideways etc

To my knowledge they certainly can and i have used them sideways upside down on weird angles and just dangling from cord for their dear life lol, Just make sure airflow is not hampered

Only moving parts as such in a psu are fans or single fan (unless some now come with mercury switches or alike !!! he he)

Secure it, Allow decent airflow, Enjoy your upside down psu

Have Fun

Depends on if there is enough room for ventilation, in the antec 900 (in the pic) the psu sits on the base of the case, i had to cut a hole in the bottom of mine and fit larger feet on the bottom of the case. :p

If your case has enough room for the fan to perform propery then turn it round , if not get the dremel out and remember if it sits on the carpet to fit larger feet to your case;)

hey guys

ok thanks for the reply

there would be around 1-1.5 cm gap between the base of the case and the psu (i can get my fingers in it) is that enough for the airflow?

thanks again, edge

Hiya,
May not be scientific but, Try listening to the psu where it now (before you place it) and listen to it (focus on the fan obviously)

Then place it where you want and have another listen

When any fan draws/blows air you get a noise, When you notice a pitch/noise difference then usually the airflow has been effected, Obviously in tighter areas you will notice a difference straight away

Kinda like the old vacuum cleaner with a pipe, Listen to it then shove a hand over the nozzle and the fan noise changes instantly, An extreme example but you get the idea

Only un-scientific way i can get it across but hope it helps

(for me the 1.5cm gap sounds ok as that's about the gap that a 2nd psu in my lian-li would have and the mounts are there already)

Have Fun

I've got a Lian Li A71B with my psu at the bottom with the fan at the bottom. Psu is currently running very warm. However its got a fair load on it when I'm using my pc gaming.

Going to flip it over at the weekend to see how it compares (if I can get it out easy enough!)

I have a antec 900 with that psu and I would never have the psu the right way up cos the psu sits on the floor of the case more or less, so having the psu the right way up in the antec 900 is a good idea if you want to kill it quickly.

The fan wont burn out, the fan just wont be able to pull any cool air into the psu, causing the psu to overheat and the fan running at full speed trying to cool the psu down.

well it seems to be ok atm, cool'ish air coming out of the back. it does have a little room to take air in:)

Do you just want to hide more of the ATX cable? I wouldn't be happy having my PSU fan so close to the bottom of my case, not unless I modded and raised it as has been said. Sounds like a lot of hassle for very little cosmetic return.

when my system is idel, theres no air comming out of my psu and its completely cool, its only if I make my system work, I get warm air comming out of my psu.

yes and thats how it should be .... the psu has to work harder so gets hotter because the graphics card and other components are putting a bigger strain on the psu.

Yes, you do.
Don't see the point of having the fan at the bottom, you're just going to clog it with dust from the floor.

Mad, mad world.
