Can this be done ?

The question is , i think my hard drive with os on it is about to die on me . Is it possible to back that drive up to another and system will work as normal or am i just talking rubbish

Yes, many disk cloning applications like Acronis and Norton Ghost can do what you want.

Thanks for reply . once i do this will that drive become c: drive with os automatically or will im have to rename

Those programs will create an exact duplicate of your current drive. So you won't have to rename or do anything like that. The only thing you'll have to do is set your PC to boot from the new drive instead of the old. Which to be honest, if your drive is going to die soon anyway, I'd just take it out and toss it.
