Hi,

Please advise whether this kind of shot can be acheived using a Fuji s9600...

I just tried it and couldnt do it...As I'm a newb perhaps I am doing something wrong...

If I tried going into the 1000's or even 100's on my shutter speed it would not allow me to do so because the exposure would become too dark even if I set the ISO to 80...

Please advise

I assume you mean 800 ISO and not 80?

Yes it can be done, just make sure it's very well lit and use your flash is necessary. A low f/stop number will let more light into the sensor as well.
 
Firstly ISO 80 is your lowest setting - try something higher but don't go above ISO200 or noise will ruin the shot.

The shot above was taken with flash - stick the camera in manual mode, enable flash and a fast shutter speed and shoot :)
 
Try using a high ISO number, maybe 400-800, 1600 may turn out to be too grainy.

use bright lights and the flash?

on manual mode you can set the Aperture size to let in more light.

as for shutter speed anything faster than 1/600

Oh and by the way im no genius on a camera so you may have to tinker some more.
 
this shot needs to be very well lit.....
iso needs to go up not down to get a shot that isn't lit well enough, so your iso setting needs to go up to say 800

not quick enoug...but you get the general idea :-)
 
this is weird...just when i thought i was understanding ISO, aperture and shutter speed aswell...

so I set camera on manual of course, then put ISO to 800, then put flash on, and set the shutter speed to 1/1000 and then 1/2000 and got some great shots, which I upload shortly..

I am soo confused because when I used the above settings the cameras indicator went immediately to my left which means the shots is under exposed...but it wasnt...

does this make sense to anyone? pls clarify..thanks
 
yes i used to use a fuji s602 years ago to get similar even older 6900 fuji..

quick simple way get a 60w halogen desktop lamp over sink put a towel or similar so no relection from basin put water trickling on to apple and snap away youll ge a similar shot use lowest iso possible and fast shutter ,, allthough a slower shutter will make the water creamy.

im on laptop so most of phoos are on main backup,, but below is good example

Without the Flash the shot will be underexposed - The flash makes the shot properly exposed :)

oh i c so the reason why i am able to take the shot even tho the exposure meter is showing me the shot will be underexposed is due to the flash..

So taking this one step further upto what distance can my shot be underexposed when using a flash?

just because the camera thinks it will be under exposed, it does not mean it will. you judge that. you'll learn what you can and can't do by trial and error.
 
thats precisely it...

so up until now I thought I was learning IS0 , composition and exposure quite well.

But then yesterday with the certain image I was taking I feel as if it has thrown out what I learnt to date. I have told myself its merely an exception and the logic does make sense i.e. camera shows low exposure but actually thats being replaced by the flash therefore the image comes out really clear due to high shutter speed etc.

There will always be instances that defy the law of physics however thats the fun of learning I guess..

Having said the above a friend advised me that you can use the camera flash upto 6metres only thereafter it wont make a difference (it wont show)....Is that correct? pls

I think having a setup like that is just overkill, but I suppose if thats all you take pictures of it makes sense. I have wanted to have a go at this for a while, and I'm sure with a bit of patience anyone would get a few good shots. Takes all the fun out of it, if you get a great shot each time! :D
