Can triple ddr3 ram be used as dual as normal?

I bought some extremely misleading ram on ebay which was listed as 2x2 ddr3 1600mhz ram. It turns out that's it's hx312g1600c9 triple slot, and I've got 2/3rds of it :/ I got 2 sets too and it's all showing up as 8gb of ram absolutely fine but instead of the full 1600mhz, it's only showing up as 1333mhz. :( I'm concerned it may affect my overclock on the 2500k, but admittedly haven't tried yet.

Does anyone know if it's forced at 1333mhz because it's triple ram instead of dual? Or is there a way around this?

Any help appreciated! :D

should run in dual channel no problem......set it to 1600 MHz in the bios.......I used 2 sticks from my tri-channel kingston hyper and it ran as dual channel fine

Single, dual triple, quad channel just means the amount of sticks used

I tried some tri channel on my asus z68,and tbh it wasn't very stable no matter how much I tweaked it

You might fair better Idk,but if it randomly keeps crashing I'd look into some propper dual channel 2x 4gb sticks

Tri channel is getting rare now so should hold its value

To run 1600mhz manually select that speed in the BIOS,might be labelled as system memory multiplier

Great! I did what you guys said and it's forced the ram fine...and the 2500k is now clocked to 4.6ghz nicely at low temps.

Will push it more tomorrow :D thanks for the help! Appreciated :D
