Though I can't put in the time I used to (I'm at that stage in my life where I can no longer switch off and play games all the time), I am still very competitive in almost everything I do, especially gaming, so it does pain me to be so far behind many people in Cataclysm already. However, I'm aware that I'll probably never be able to put in the dedication required to even keep up with your average MMO-player anymore, so I just have to suck it up and adapt. I'm still having fun levelling up and doing the occasional dungeon run, and I'm certainly more skilled than many people who've put in much more time than me.
Having inferior gear and experience is certainly the lesser of two evils when it comes to an MMO. If it turns out you are also pretty terrible at the game as well though, it's probably useless to play it part-time, as it's pretty hard to find enjoyment in a game that you can't keep up with.
