Psu is a Akasa 460W, it says on the side +12v1=14A, +12v2=15A. Its running a 6320@ 2.45 gig, 4x1 gig ddr2 800 ram, 2 harddrives, 1 dvd and a few fans, i want to know if its enough to power a 8800gts 512meg the new ones, its currently running a 7800gt.

the card requires a minimum 400W PSU capable of outputting 26A on the +12V rail. If your PSU has two or more 12V rails, then you need to pay attention to the continuous output which should be mentioned somewhere in the PSU specs. This figure will be lower than the total of all the rails.
For example, if your PSU has three +12V rails each with a maximum output of 17A each, then the continuous output will probably be around 10A less than the total of 51A in this particular case.
I think it will run but would advise an upgrade.

Thanks for you response my mates offering me the bfg 8800 gts 512 oc for £40 as the card i have atm is pretty poor thought it would be a good cheap upgrade but don't really want to fork out for a new psu.

what card are you running at the moment ?

if hes a proper m8 ask him to give it a try first to check the psu.

Its running a 7800gt atm, i told him i couldn't really afford the card atm and he said i can pay bit at a time so can't grumble.

Pretty sure it would be fine.

I ran X1800XT (28amps recommended), 2900 Pro (27amps), 8800GT 512MB (24amps), and a 4850 (30amps) on a 465w Enermax. Admittedly, it did have 33a on a single 12v line though.

Even with variance loss, you combinded 12v rails of 29a should meet the GTS requirements.

Its a good idea to try it but how will i know if its ok ? will it just not run or will it blow the psu
