Can you explain rugby to me?

I don't get why when I say I have no interest in and do not like football, people react with "but you're all over rugby!!".

Well that's because they're 2 different sports for a start. The fact I used to play probably has something to do with it!

What I love about Rugby is that although a lot of them are pros, many of them hold down a regular day job too.

If they hold down a regular day job that would make them Semi-Professional.

I like rugby because of this one, small reason:

The players are absolutely huge and when they disagree with a ref's decision they don't keep complaining like footballers do. They respect the ref's decision and move on.

That's pretty much the first thing you're told if you ever play for a team, knock seven shades out of each other as much as you like but never back chat the ref.

It keeps a nice level of respect in the game.

Agreed. There's actual respect (in the most part), furthermore, there is genuine respect and admiration for one another.

Never heard of rugby hooligans, either... footie ones, sure, but it seems even the fans are generally a decent crowd. Probably get just as wasted down the pub and have just as good an array of lewd songs, but the behaviour seems far better overall.

The attitude towards the referee is far superior to the attitudes displayed in football. Look on Youtube for clips of Nigel Owens laying the law down to various players, including Alun Wyn Jones who is about twice his size.

The referee plays a very different role in rugby, he's almost a coach for a large percentage of the game.

I do struggle to follow the rules every now and then, like how come that was a penalty this time but last time it was a scrum, that sort of thing - but nothing that I find spoils my enjoyment of the game.

I also like that rugby is a very inclusive game, there is a role for every shape and size of person, from 5 foot / 10 stone scrum halfs to 7+ foot / 20+ stone man mountains.

I do agree they could certainly streamline some of the rules to make the game flow better, but like many sports, you sometimes get ref's who are far to happy to blow their whistles and be centre of attention, rather than let the game go on

You'd never get away with lumping home and away football fans together with a good helping of beer without someone being killed, whereas in rugby everyone plays nicely and you can even give each other a ribbing without anyone's nose getting knocked out of joint.

Trying to cover up the actual game being a bit pants by banging on about respect and football hooligans. Standard rugby fan. :p

Indeed, so tedious. The only thing rugby ever seems to have going for it is MANLY RESPECT and players being top blokes.

All the evidence points towards cheating being absolutely rampant in the sport, whether that's at a micro level in and around the breakdown or at a macro level with players becoming inexplicably huge over the last 10 years (see Toulon for the clearest example of what I'm getting at...). But, hey, the players are nice to the ref so it's the best sport ever.

I actually like rugby but its fans do it a disservice by constantly comparing it to other games.

Hey, at least we can sit in the same side of the stadium as the opposing supporters without wanting to rip each other's eyes out, and spitting into the empty sockets.

So, yea we might not be perfect.... but at least we're not the worst :D

I'd expect the footy supporters wanting to push the opposing team's supporters under the train instead

ANYHOO, back on topic before the hooligans came to derail. The YT video of the babes in action, OP, should explain everything you'd want to know.
