can you raid1 a raid0 array

I have 2x500gb in raid0 can i mirror that with a 1bt drive in raid1

Do you mean RAID10 (RAID1+0)?

if all the drives were the same you could do raid 10 or 1+0 as some call it which is striped and mirrored.

What controller, type of RAID? Hardware/software etc?

I would imagine you're going to have to trash the mirror, and rebuild a RAID 10 from scratch.

On all the proper hardware RAID controllers I've worked with, none would support this. You would need 4 disks (they don't have to be identical, the array will be as big as the smallest disk x 2).
