Can you run the same windows on 2 pc's ?

Yes you can on all fronts, and it does this one 2K, XP Home, XP64 and Vista

For about 6 years, my 2 sons have had the exact same PC and it started out with me installing Win2K and simp,y ghosting the drive rather than reinstalling everythign again.

I did it with XP too and again more recently with Vista.

The thing is, that I had not really thought abotu it at first, but they were both using the very same Serial numbers and sometimes I would get a moan about the same info and this was usually because I called each PC by the kids names and once I changed the names, it would run fine.

But even though they are legal in the way that the yare both running Vista64 and that the yboth have their own Licence etc, the silly fact is, that they are both still using the very same serial number.... I think I better change this now that I mention it.

Butagain I have done this for years and never had an issue even on the network about them being the same serials etc.

If you're using the same serial for both, then they don't each have their own license. You break the licensing agreement if you use one license across multiple PCs simultaneously.

Thats exactly what I just said... hence the rest of the line that you have cut out...

And just because they are both running off the same serial number does not change the fact that they still have their own licence.

And one more "Just for the record" this has in the last 10 minutes now been rectified.

And one more little hting that I find hilarious is that my sons PCs are massively different now and they have had this installation since february... Here are the PC Specs

Gigabyte DS3 v1.0
E6400 / E5200
X1900XT / 8800GTS
XFI Gamer / XFI Music
4x512MB / 2x512MB
120GB / 160GB

Even with the few differences they have both been updating just fine since FEB, however, here is the real doozy... My daughters PC was done on teh same image and I have checked that out and its different again... Stil the DS3 Mobo ( I love the DS3 - its clockable to hell and back and can be picked up for a song these days ) and an E2180, 2x1GB, and a 1900XT but thats also been rectified now so the yall have their own proper serial numbers.

I bet I will get hassle now.

Hey,

i wanna setup another computer but have no OS except the XP ive got installed on here.

Can i install it on the other machine too with no problems ?

No, you need to purchase another licence. Why not stick the Windows 7 RC on there if the machine is not critical, and upgrade to the full version at the end of October?

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I have a question that is similar..
I have replaced my mobo and installed W7. Now I find there are some programs I use that will not run on W7, and the updated versions do not do what I want. So, can I install xp, maybe on a seperate HDD, or even the same one as used in the old build, and use it purely for running the old programs ?
If I need to purchase another license, what does that cost - is it the same as buying a new copy of XP or do I go direct to microsoft to buy one ?

If the copy of XP you have is OEM, then this will be tied to the original motherboard and you will need to purchase a new copy assuming you replaced the motherboard to upgrade.

If the original motherboard was replaced as it was faulty then you can reinstall XP with the new motherboard.

With Windows 7 Pro/Ultimate/Business you can use XP mode which will run XP only compatible programs in a virtualised environment within Win7.

Hmm - thanks Dappy - sadly, the mobo was replaced, and xp is oem. Even more sadly, W7 is the home version.
So, looks like I may need to get a new license then - can anyone help on that question ?

Cheers !
