Ok, just built a system with these components.

Intel Core 2 Duo E8200
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3
Corsair HX Series 520W Modular PSU
Seagate ST3500320AS 500GB Hard Drive SATA II
Point Of View 8800GT PCI-E Graphics Card
Corsair 2GB Kit 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 Memory

XP installed, MB and Graphics drivers installed, no issues. Then I began to install a few of my apps that I have on my other systems. I have Zone Alarm with the updates on disk, so installed the first of those, no problem. when I went to install the update for ZA, I had a split second blue screen (page of white text with blue background) that was to fast to read ANY of it, followed by instant reboot. Tried again, same thing. Tested the file on another pc, works ok so its not corrupt. Tried to uninstall ZA, crash. ZA uninstalls fine in safe mode.

I have installed various softwares to test stability, like CPUZ, CoreTemp, Orthos and 3DSMark06. Ran Orthos Blend mode for hours on end without any errors, temps were at around 52-56 on full load (crappy stock HSF). Ran 3DSmark06 with no problem with a score of 11000+. No crashes or problems using any of these tools. Installed ConvertX2DVD, ran a few conversions, again, no problems what so ever. Booted with Memtest86+ and all ran ok, no errors. Ran a prog called BST to test the HD, all is good there too.

Have since done a fresh XP install, used only the latest drivers from Gigabytes site ect, same issue arises. so, what is the problem? Im trying to think what else has caused the crash to happen but my brain seems overloaded with nonsense now :D

Is it a software or Hardware problem here?

Tried turning off automatic restart on event of a bluescreen (somewhere in system properties). That way you'll be able to read the BSOD, and post back the code :)

paradigm suggestion is an excellent starting point..

if I have read correctly your machine keeps restarting, my money is on the fact you have installed the RAM incorrectly which is causing your system to randomly reboot...i.e. your RAM is in the wrong slots...

Have a read of the mobo manual and double check..

Sorry, forgot to mention I had since switched off the reboot on fail so I can read the BSOD :D I'm sure you know most of whats on that BSOD, but the code is as follows:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. This is located near the top of said screen. Further down is this code:

***STOP 0x000000D1 (0xC03008044 0x00000002 0x0000000 0xB75574AC)
VSDATANT.SYS_ADDRESS B75574AC Base ATB7537000 Date Stamp 40a88e61

As for the memory installation, yes, its installed in the correct slots, Slots 1 and 3 are used in this case. The machine doesn't keep rebooting, only when I'm installing ZA. I cant remember now if it's happened with any other software, yet maybe once or twice its been a randon crash. The ZA file I first used is not corrupt as it works on other pcs. So, could ZA be incompatible with my board, for whatever reason? Bit iffy if I cant use Zone Alarm with this system .

Any other bits of software I should get hold of to test anything to narrow down the problem?

Aint google amazing ?

VSDATANT.SYS
yields
http://www.file.net/process/vsdatant.sys.html

So this part of zone alarm and its causing a driver error on your system

Boot in safe mode and remove zone alarm and your sorted

Oh dear, after reading from that link, it does appear that ZA is not happy at home in this new build :(. Odd though, as its working very happy on my other systems

Yes, Google is amazing. Would have gotten there eventually, just much slower than many of you :p :D

Ah well, hopefully now I can enjoy me first Intel system to the full :D

Thanks kindly, Gents :)

dont worry about this. when i first built my pc . everything was fine (spec isnt as good as yours though) installed some games ... company of heroes etc all worked fine. tried installed zone alarm and it got a blue screen exactly like yours and when yours did. booted up again and it was like installed but i didnt trust it so i unistalled. then reboot. installed av, modem drivers etc so i could get onto internet. i left it a little while with out any thrid party firewall. then a week or so later i decided to download zone alarm of the internet (fresh copy...i did the above with a memory stick) . i disabled windows firewall. then reboot , i then installed zone alarm and to my astonishment it worked . got all the way to the end . restarted pc normaly and there it was . installed and everything.
