I just been thinking (boredom) about can you really support various teams, or only one. Will the other team just be a team you like?

Im saying because being from the north east i support Newcastle, im pretty die hard about supporting Newcastle (I have no idea why i support newcastle i have no forceful family connections that made me support them, i basically decided when i was 8 or something)

Anyways, my grandparents have like connections from switzerland, about 3 of 4 times a year either my grandparents visit them, or they visit us sort of. But the first time i remember seeing them was when i was 8ish (everything happens at 8yrs old) and the son of their family who was i think 13 at the time (claudio) was wearing a milan shirt, obviously being young i was quizzing who they were, and ever since then ive liked milan, ive always looked how they do and stuff just as much as i do with newcastle.... but is that supporting 2 teams, i darent say it to people because they say you can't support 2 teams and im "glory" supporting, yet i started my interest in milan without knowing anything in football really, being 8ish. But just an wondering i have, maybe ill get laughed at here too, but was wondering if I am "allowed" to fully support both teams, or just one.

P.S if it was life or death it will be Newcastle, seen as im local :p

Not sure really, I support Arsenal and follow Cheltenham, but if Cheltenham ever made it into the Prem (about as likely as Arsenal getting relegated to League One :p), it would be Arsenal without a doubt. Would be similar with any foreign teams if i followed any..

I support my home town club, Scunthorpe United, and also Manchester United. I never really liked football when I was little until I watched Manchester United. The attacking style they play got me into football and without them I wouldn't support my home town either. People might say it's glory supporting, but when I was little I had no idea who was good or bad.

Anyway, as they play 3 divisions apart it's not a problem unless they meet in a cup. In that case I'd support the underdog.

Why not support? Whats the difference with support and following, like, interested?

IMO, support means you live for your team. Do any thing for them, follow them throught the good and the bad times. How can you fo that with 2 teams, it would be like having 2 girlfriends just with none of the benefits.

no i dont think you can, you can support one team, which i support middlesbrough, born here, brought up here, etc so middlesbrough is the team i love/support and so on, but i "follow" darlington, like when middlesbrough are away or something and i cant make it i will go see darlo or if boro are play on a sunday i will go see darlo, its mainly because most of boros young players end up there :P so i just enjoy going to see them

I have a soft spot for the Wolves

And ive been in the position a couple of times where we have played
them and i can honestly say i have never been so upset in all my life than
when Wolves beat Man Utd a couple of years ago

Im known round here for always having supported MU through all the grief
that MU fans living elsewhere have to put up with

I had to sit in the Stan Cullis and watch MU rip them to bits back in January

It put the quietners on all my Wolves mates who kept reminding me no matter
how good MU are the Wolves still beat them :D

I'm a Newcastle fan, but due to living where I am I have a soft spot for Leicester. I also kind of support my local club, Hinckley Utd and when I say support I mean I will at some point got to one of their matches :D

I dn't think you can support two teams, for the reasons others have stated.

I live Bristol City, supported them since i was 4 i just couldn't follow another team in the same way, there is no connection between myself and any other club, when we got done in the Playoffs by Cardiff, i was in tears after the game it hurt that much, when we beat hartlepool in the playoffs it was incredible when the stands emptied and people just piled onto the pitch when the final whistle was blown, the sheer noise when we scored the second in injury time was astounding, even Poll commented on it in his referees report and said he's ben in charge of games all over Europe at the Nu Camp, San Siero, and the sheer sound when we scored was comparable to that.

There are teams that i like and have a soft spot for, Always keep an eye on Liverpool, Yeovil, Forest Green Rovers, Stoke. But if City ever play any of them then I only want city to win.

Its possible to support one and have interest in another.
For example, im willing to bet that a lot of people here support one club, while having an interest in another.
For me, i support Milan, but have interest, and goto games, of my local club, Crewe Alex.
Its not a case of supporting two, because in scenarios where they'd come up against each other, who would one support then?

Support & Interest are possible.
Supporting 2 isnt possible imo.

Wolves are my big team, I love them lol. Shame were complete silage at the moment, i'm a season ticket holder, but when were not at home, i'll pop down the bucks head and watch AFC Telford United.

I enjoy it, and it's only a few quid to get in.

I suppose I support two teams, although Wolves are my 'primary' team.

If you have a Season ticket for both teams then you are supporting them both, otherwise you're just a fan.
Used to go to the col u games regularly (Shared a season ticket).. but kinda gave up with them as they kept losing horrendously and didn't seem to try, now they're 2nd in league 1, btu I haven't got back to see them..

Im a fan of both teams :)

Agreed.
If im not at a Newcastle game I very occasionally watch Carlisle and always look for their score on a saturday when the full times come in.
Watched Blyth Spartans a few times too although following these teams is generally for the old fashioned terrace banter which is non existant in the premier league.
Its a passing intrest more than anything , defeats for these teams means very little to me emotionally , unlike the pits of dispair Newcastle plunge me into.

Id take Newcastle United over any team though , including England so therefore no , you cant support two teams.
