Can you "support" two clubs?

i support Man Utd and follow Barcelona.think i only supported them because when i went to Barcelona when i was younger i liked the colours on there home shirt

It's not unusual in Scotland for one to support a Scottish team and and English team. There is nothing wrong with that. I wish all British clubs well in Europe, but at the same time I support my local team, British teams when in Europe and any team that is playing against England at the time. :p

You can only support one team imho.....I reckon people who support more than one are just glory hunters.....My Scottish team got humped in the League but atleast Barca won the La Liga......And so on...... :p

I will always support and follow Celitc no matter if its good, bad , happy or sad times....One team is enough of an emotional rollercoaster, i don't need another.....

I do however take an interest in the Premiership but i do not support any of the 20 teams in it :o

To me a supporter is somebody who actually supports a club with their money.
I'm a Stoke City supporter and had a season ticket since I was 12 (36 years ago) but to be honest I'm not a fan. I know next to nothing about them and usually don't know who they are playing before I get there but every week I support them with my money.
On the other hand I am a fan of a lot of teams. I know more about the top teams in the Premier than I do my own club and I will watch all teams at all times. Thats the reason I bought an elaborate satellite system like the ones you see in Europe so I can watch Premier football all the time.
Yes you can support two teams - my mate has both season tickets for Stoke and Port Vale but you can be a fan of many.

I agree with dmpoole's definition actually, but I also think everyone else is right in that only one team can ever be your true love. Since the technical definition of a "supporter" is someone who gives their money towards a club, and regularly, I think you can say you're a supporter of more than one club. But those other clubs will never mean more to you than your main one, no matter how much you like 'em.

I'm a Forest fan/supporter depending on definition. If we're going for money definition, I'm just about a supporter (buy shirts, odd game once a season, had a season ticket several seasons ago) but I'm most certainly a fan. I've followed them through thick and thin and will continue to do so.

I do have an interest in the Premiership as a whole - like most football fans I enjoy watching Liverpool, Arsenal, Man Utd and Chelsea (particularly in Europe). If we're talking interest in another club in particular; Roma. Started with picking them randomly on CM Italy (years ago...) and pick them first every Football Manager game I load. Don't know why!

I'd say I'm a ManU supporter at heart, always have been same as the family. I also follow Inter Milan, hoping they do well etc... To be fair though I'll follow any Italian team if they are in any major competition.

I had this debate with someone a few days ago.

I have to say, in my opinion the answer is no, definatley not.

Its my opinion that supporting two clubs just cant work, loyalty to one club is the way.

You can support one club, then have an affinity/soft spot for another club or two.

However, it isn't that easy. Because of my background and interests, I support 4 clubs in 4 countries, and have an affinity for another 6 to 8 or so per country too. I'm sorry, this is not hypocritical, I have relevant ties to all of these clubs and because I move countries ever so often, I have to have a main club and a few minor soft-spot ones per country.

In case you're wondering -

Greece
Main club: Panathinaikos
Soft spot: Panionios, Kavala

Germany
Main club: Borussia Dortmund
Soft spot: Karlsruhe

England
Main club: Man City
Soft spot: Liverpool

Spain
Main club: Barcelona
Soft spot: none

Since I have individual links with all of those clubs to some extent, I believe my choices are justified :)

Oh yeah, if my main club plays my soft spot club, I hope for a draw :)

I'm a Man utd support but I've always had a soft-spot for Wigan with it being my home town. But now that they're in the Premiership, stuff them! :p

Christ I hated it when they were in the top 4 or 5, now that they're slipping down the table again I'm glad. I'd like them to stay up, but just in the bottom half where they belong :o

I was loving beating them 2-1 at the JJB, sat in the hospitality section which is slap bang in the middle of the West stand (home), was I quiet? Was I ****! :p

Colchester and arsenal :)
Im Southend and West Ham, sort of the anti-christ to you.Had to endure the agony of last seasons play-offs for both teams from iraq at midnight on Sat TV.
Back in UK so can see both at home at weekends but Southend get the vote if the games clash.
Hope Colly go up (in 2nd), you have pulled it back together at the last mo.
Im dreading Saturday,

a few people here have a soft spot for their local club but would rather support a top premiership team.... why
is it to save face at the pub or your mates or the fact they win things your soft spot won't
