Hey,

I am currently paying for wow using a visa card every month for 9 pounds a month, but wish to cancel for a bit since I dont really have much time to play (at least till after xmas).

If I chose to cancel the recuring monthly payment, it tells me I am basically quiting wow, and to give feedback to why, but I want to quit that payment method, and then use game cards and stuff after xmas, is that possible or will my characters be lost?
:(

Thanks all

Yeah characters wont be deleted :) I always take a break from WoW every so often and just quit my payment and come back 3 or 4 months later :)

Lol if you think how much time people play its a very cheap hobbie really

£108 per year to play a game?

Not for me thanks!
Even though I don't play or like World Of Warcraft, I play Lord Of The Rings Online, ask yourself this: -

How much do you pay per year for your television service?
How much do you pay per year for your broadband service?
How much do you pay per year for your telephone service?
How much do you pay per year to drink or smoke?
How much do you pay per year to drive (if you do drive)?
How much do you pay per year to go out on the town?
How much do you pay per year to buy new clothes?
How much do you pay per year to see live sport/music?
How much do you pay per year to go on holiday?

Don't see how playing a game is any different really, in the sense that it's purely a luxury, and it's cheaper than most of those to boot so pretty much anyone (even me) can afford to do it on top of the other stuff. :)

Quite enough on the crap you listed to fork out £9 per month for another sodding game tbh! :D

If I drive? - Oh come on! ;):D (Hint in Sig.)

I'm not dissing you mate, its just that the game I still play most often (Battlefield 2) cost me about £28 when it came out, back in 2005.

And has cost me nothing since. :)

I wince at paying monthly for a game (I guess I'm showing my age!) :o

Yeah. To be honest, Battlefield 2 kind of sucks now. The servers are quiet and all the maps are the same.

At least the monthly subscription games have new content released every 6 months and an expansion every year.

But if you prefer FPS, i cant think of any that are pay per month. I'd imagine you might think differently if there was a constantly updated, constantly evolving FPS with new challenges and objectives throughout the year that require a community of friends to coordinate and organise themselves in order to achieve it as a team. You know, rather than 2 guys storming a flag and standing on it for a minute, then moving to the next.

Don't get me wrong, I love FPS games. I have BF2142, the whole HL2 series including TF2, Counterstrike, Unreal Tournament, the Medal of Honour games and a bunch more... but i cant play any of them for more than an hour in a day. They offer light, thoughtless entertainment that require no real concentration. If there was a game as i mentioned above that was an FPS and required a monthly sub, i would definately pay for it. On top of other sub games.

So i guess it comes down to what you want out of gaming. But that doesn't make it a rip off or worthy of a suprised smiley.

Don't worry about cancelling WoW - it keeps your account details and characters forever and you can sign up again at any time. It gives you the questionnaire and treats it like you're quitting because obviously it's quite possible that you might never come back.

Aye I wasn't dissing you either, in the end it's your money and your choice. :)

Was just trying to show how really, it's quite a cheap thing to do and the experience of an MMO is very different to something like Battlefield 2 (which I used to play religiously until Crysis and COD4.)

Of course, most MMOs are just a grind-fest, but that's beside the point. :p

I thought all were a grind grind grind. People pay to grind, it makes them feel better, more superior with there virtual e-peen character? oohh I might have started a flame war now ;)
Nah, I avoid grind-fest MMOs like that unless they happen to have an amazing community as well. Star Wars Galaxies, City Of Heroes/Villains, Lord Of The Rings Online to name a few. :) ;)

Oh. my. god.

Can we please have a World of Warcraft thread that doesn't descend into crap?

RTM'd.

Where is the crap? All I see in this thread is friendly discussion and then you over-reacting.

Sure the thread went a little off-topic in regards to the value of paying monthly to play an MMORPG, but other than that the OP's question was answered and there was no actual fighting whatsoever.
