Has anyone decided just to watch catch up TV and do away with live broadcasts ?

We have decided to do this purely because most of the things we watch are on Netflix.

The wife was watching Eastenders last night and about 15 minutes after it had finished I checked BBC Iplayer, low and behold there was the episode she had just watched.

So Sky is cancelled and the box is up for sale, and from now on we are watching on demand TV.

Has anyone else done this ? and how long before they come knocking at your door ?

Have you an aerial attached to the side of the house?
Is your TV free sat compatible, even with the skybox gone?

Then with no means of receiving any signal you can clearly comply with being able to state you don't watch live TV. It should exempt you from payment.
If you have physically cancelled, it'll be interesting to see how long it is until they turn up to check and ask.

I cancelled my licence last week. Felt like I wasn't getting value for money from my £12/month direct debit.

The only show I ever sit down and watch "live" is Top Gear. Waiting until it's on iPlayer will almost certainly not kill me.

I remember a few years ago when we moved into our previous address, we had a valid licence from the address we moved from and someone was knocking on the door within 4 days, he made one quick phone call to verify and all was well.

Keep thinking of doing this myself, I'd still prefer to be able to opt out of bbc than drop whole live TV service

Had anyone knocking on your door yet ?

When they knock on your door, pull out a camera and ask them to leave without saying anything, don't tell them your name or that you're the householder.

They don't like camera's, or people that know their rights ;)

Good on you for doing it though.

With wires attatched, can they prove you have actually watched live TV,or is the capability of being able to enough for them to assume you have, and act on that assumption?

In that case, when I get Fibre internet, TV License will be gone.

Hardly use it as it is now, just for the news/weather in the morning. BBC iPlayer for catching up if need be.

I think the TV License should be abolished anyway. Just put blooming adverts on BBC and give people the freedom. Why should I pay for Radio 1 and the other crap radio channels I never listen to.

If or should I say when I get a knock on the door, they are most welcome to come in a see for themselves that there is no way we can physically receive any live TV.

That's if they want to chance it against our two dobes that will greet him at the door.

If it wasn't for live sporting events, I'd cancel as well. Saying that, I'm on Infinity so should probably investigate what BT are providing over the net...

iPlayer is going to need logins for licence fee payers soon. The licence fee pays for content primarily and not beaming to houses.

If you don't consume BBC content then not paying the fee is fine, if you do then why expect it for free?
