I'm currently with Orange on a £36 a month contract which im always going over.

From the 20th of this month I will have 10 months left on it.

I have just lowered myself onto the work £31 plan so my settlement will be less.

How long do I have to wait before I can ring up and say I want to cancel after I have lowered my tarrif?

I have a galaxy note 2 i am selling to cover the cost of the contract and a little spare.

I know I have to give them 30 days notice of the cancelation

I don't think you'd have to wait at all? I imagine you could just ring up say you want to cancel and then pay the £248 ((31 * 10) * 0.8), after all they are interested in money and you are calling to give them a big wedge of it :p

y is it *0.8? do you not have to pay the VAT?

Yeah I've been told that you can only be charged VAT on services that you actually receive, so because you'll no longer be receiving the service you shouldn't need to pay the VAT. Guess there's nothing stopping them from turning round and saying that because the VAT is no longer applicable then the 20% becomes a cancellation fee and thus you have to pay the full amount :p
