Behind you... Naked!
I had been arguing on friday with a mate about his PC.

I have said that he would be better off getting rid of his old kit while he can still geta few quid for it. and buying himself a bog-standard basic Core2Duo setup... I mean, if you looked around £50 would probably get you Board, Chip and some RAM wouldnt it? sure, it would be low end, but he currently has a 2.6Ghz Socket 478 P4D with 3x512MB DDR1 so the C2D will utterly kill it no matter what he gets!

I think thats not much to ask is it?

Guess what he has gone and done to prove me wrong?

He has only gone and bought himself :-
1 - A 3Ghz HT CPU ( Cos its faster than a 2.6Ghz Dual core? )
2 - 4x1GB DDR1 RAM ( Oh thats nice & cheap NOT! + he only has 3 slots!!! )

Total cost was over a ton!

Now tell me this... Does that equate to being a bloody moron or what?

He is on Facebook right now boasting about his new purchase and I just had to tell you!

Oh that's nothing.

I've just spent about 400 to pimp a computer I don't even use.

Maybe it makes sense if I say I'm doing it as a hobby? :o

You could have lead and guided your friend, instead of arguing with him calling him an idiot, then post forum topics to reinforce your belief that arguing with him was the best way to be a friend.

I'm just as bad, I've just spent £700 on upgrading a machine that I hardly game on anymore.
put a 2600k, 8 gig of ram, z68 mobo 750watt PSU and a Blu ray drive in there.

I play football manager on it!

I bought a Corsair 700D, all the watercooling gear (all new EK 360 rad, multioption reservoir, nickel block and a 2nd hand D5 pump) All black fittings, all white tubing. Spend a few weeks building, leak testing, building leak testing etc.
Never used it. Sold the major parts on here, and basically chucked all the hoses etc.
That was a lot of money!

I made the biggest mistake of all.

I got my Mum a computer, without realising that doing this signs you up to an invisible contract stating that you must provide 24-hour lifetime support and help in the event of any emergency, ranging from "oh, i've broken the HDD" to "the mouse won't move" "oh, looks like I accidentally unplugged it when cleaning, sorry for making you come 15 miles to fix it".

 :o

Well I get it somehow! sometimes guidance between friends is hard. Even if you explain to them they will not listen just to have a go on themselves or to stubborn a friend of his has more knowledge than in him in certain subjects. If they are like that let them do the mistake and hopefully they will learn.

Reminds me of a similar problem with a m8 of mine, he never listened and went and spent so much money on a pc he wouldn't use that much, instead of saving a bit and upgrading little by little in the future. Now he is stuck with a mediocre PC and complaining he has no money to upgrade.

I know someone who would win this award every year. Won't mention names - but this is nothing compared. I'm sure i'll share stories at some point ;)

Try 350 miles, that was my expected support range to a few friends and my family every time any computer went wrong (Belfast back to MK/St Albans or the other way round for NI people whilst here)

Not a fan of that unwritten contract

I managed to reverse into a tree (very slowly) and put a dent just above my left wheel on my polo. Probably idiot move of the week

I recently bought a PS3 so I could play FF7 again. Not even finished the game, got about two thirds of the way through and got bored with it. So I'm now left with a rather expensive DVD/Blu ray player.

Spam his FB page with comments about what an eejit he is.
After all, you did advise him and correctly it was HE who bought that crap to 'try' and prove YOU wrong.
No sympathy for him.....definite contender!
