cannon Lake delayed (again)

If Icelake is a dud that's going to be so disappointing, no big increase from Intel until Ocean Cove?

Be interesting if Intel go cap in hand to somewhere like TSMC in the interim - AFAIK design wise there isn't an issue its the complications inherent to working at around 7nm - especially as Intel tried to leapfrog to second generation 7nm type technologies for parts of the node more relevant to CPUs while not having EUV, etc. to work with. The irony being they tried to get a 3 year head start and looks like going to end up barely competing against 1st generation 7nm elsewhere.

Be a strange move at this point as by all accounts the main issue aside from corporate ones seems to be that in pushing some areas of the process to try and get a 3 year march on the competition they ran into the requirement of EUV which is literally an "any day now" development.

It is possible management have been so inept that with the reshuffle it has come to light it would be more cost effective to start over which might even see them out-sourcing for production (if I was Intel at this point I'd go "cap in hand" to TSMC to get additional 7nm capabilities online and put the efforts into a replacement for 10nm now).

SA seems to have a bit of a grudge against Intel and these days regularly smears them inflating the tiniest bit of information into a big negative - but they have been right about half the time.

"but they have been right about half the time."

possibly more than half the time ;)

I think people over-represent when they have been right as sometimes they've been right about information no one else was claiming/even heard of but they really don't have as good track record overall - especially a lot of their doom and gloom about nVidia was completely and utterly wrong.

They'd do much better sticking to the facts (like they used to) than inflating small snippets of information into a smear against Intel or nVidia as they seem to do a lot these days.

Don't forget Intel have their 7nm Fab 42 due online in 2020/21, so it could very well be true they may have massively scaled back 10nm in order fulfil 14nm demands and not lose market share to AMD.

Information about fab 42 has gone very very quiet. Not sure what that means. I wonder if it is anything more than the shell of a building with a clean room environment heh.

EDIT: From a quick google it looks like they've redirected a lot of resources to Israel - wonder if that was at the expense of 7nm progression to try and get 10nm working.
