I removed several HDDs from my vista HTPC and am in the process of setting them up in a fileserver running XP.

Some of the HDDs moved over fine, others havent.

I'm using the same motherboard and it uses the Intel ICH8 controller I believe.

Those that have issues say ie D:\ is inaccessible.

In disk management, I notice those with issues are marked as Healthy (Active), while those without are marked as Healthy. All are indicated as NTFS in disk management, those with issues are marked RAW in drive properties.

Anyone any ideas ??? I really don't want to have to re-rip all my media :(

Put them back in the Vista one, see if they work. If not, check out iRecover, it should be able to recover much of the data if the disk's not been written over.
The trial is limited to one folder per scan, so if everything is in different folders you have to re-scan it a fair few times.. or you can do something fancy involving hibernation and making a backup of hiberfil.sys and pagefile.sys.

Any further ideas before I try the above ?

chkdsk /f /r didn't sort it last night, are those the correct switches to have any hope or should I have ran something else ?

checkdisk can kill a hdd that's on its way out, I'd never run that until I'd attempted to get my stuff off. But never mind.
And iRecover is free to see if it'll work, and you can still recover stuff slowly.. it's not like you're losing anything to test it out :p

How were they setup in Vista, basic or dynamic? Suppose the only way to find out would be as suggested above to put them back into the Vista PC.
