I have Virgin cable broadband with their Netgear router. I have a really annoying problem. A Toshiba laptop connects wirelessly just fine, but

My desktop - fitted with a Belkin PCI wireless card - works just fine too. But then I moved the PC and it is now near the floor, so although it still works, the connection isn't too strong and is occasionally a problem. So I thought, why not use the Netgear WG111 v2 USB wireless adaptor that I got from Virgin, which comes with a USB cable and a cradle for the adaptor so it can be placed high. Perfect. I Installed the drivers, plugged it in, Vista sees the network at full strength but when I go to connect and enter the password, Vista just comes up with an error message that it can't connect :( Really bizarrre - I can connect but not so reliably with the Belkin PCI card, but connecting via the USB adaptor won't work

First I phoned Netgear, number on he box, and got patched through to USA. When I said I purchased from Virgin Media they said I had to speak to them. I did for half an hour, and they were useless. I just got someone who clearly knew nothing and simply read down and exhausted a list of possible solutions. Said it must be a setting on my PC somewhere when nothing worked

I see a different phone number on Netgear UK website, I'll give them a call. But any ideas ??
- I am keying in the passord correctly
- MAC address access control is turned off on the router

thanks

Well I found a NetGear forum and it seems this problem is all too common with the WG111 - the problem is usually solved simply by buying something else

Still after suggestions as to how it might be made to work - one suggestion was to try Channel 1 not 6 - but otherwise, is anyone using another brand and model of USB wireless adaptor that works beautifully with Vista X64 ?

Well I solved it - changed the wireless router to Channel 1 from 6, and now I connect perfectly !! Now let's see how it goes. According to quite a few posts, these things drop their connections very ferquently..
