just upgraded to 2180@3ghz and 2gb ram looking to replace my x1800xt 512mb card

toying with the 8800gt or the 3850 , i take it i need 512mb version to game at 1680x1050 i like 2*aa if possible.

which card is better value for me, probably upgrade next year to the 9800 mid range jobbie as i have had my fill of £300+ vga cards got stung on the 1800 only to have 1900 come out 2 weeks later, anyway i digress which card is better bang for buck games i like are

tough call, that's a £60-£90 price spread there. The 8800GT is quite a bit faster than a 3850, but if you are hell bent on upgrading next year, then get the cheaper option.
 
yer rather than spending £300-£400 on card every couple years i think spening £150-£200 on the each gens mid range make more sense , although untill the 8800gt/38** the midrange this gen ws ***P
