Decided i want to comeplete doom 3 again with EAX and 5.1. When i try to enable EAX in the system options it says i do not have suitable hardware or something. I have an asus xonar DX.

AFAIK EAX in Doom 3 only works with creative cards anyhow (tho there might be work arounds) it was included as part of a deal with creative so that creative wouldn't hold things up while hashing out the legal details of the parts of the shadow system in doom3 that they claimed to hold IP for.

Tbh, I don't see why it won't work. The Xonar cards might not have native 3,4,5 EAX, but they do have EAX2. Of course unless as Lord Filbuster pointed out it's down to the way Vista and 7 handle audio.

Good old Micro$$$$ and thier audio challenged OS's!

edit: Ah! Rfoff's post would explain it.

Why does people saying the xonar is not eax 3 to 5. it emulates it so it should work fine, unless the current drivers for windows 7 are holding back proper eax 3 to 5.

I play a lot of call of duty world at war is that using EAX 5? or only EAX 2? how can i tell ive never really used a hightech sound card before.

Same problem you have with FEAR basically. As well as emulating EAX 3-5 it has to fool the game into thinking a Creative card is present. There's quite a few games where Asus haven't hacked it into the drivers yet. Whether they ever will remains to be seen.

The whole thing is a cheeky workaround really. It's a bit like if AMD / ATI managed to get PhysX working, accelerated by their GPUs.

I heard ati are making there own physx. Asus can patch these games they are just lazy, fear is begging to be patched.

Lazy or worried about a lawsuit? Who can tell?

If it was easy, don't you think Asus would have released the drivers months ago? Why hasn't somebody else done it?
