Hi all,

I have two machines, a testbed and my main pc. I am trying to install a G3258 CPU into my testbed but when I do it will not post. The CPU does work fine in my main machine, I am using it now as I write this message.

The CPU out of my main machine (an i7 4770) works fine in the testbed pc so I know all the components work ok. Whilst I had the i7 in the testbed I upgraded the BIOS to a version which the ASUS website said was compatible with the G3258. The motherboard is an ASUS H81-Plus. Whilst the MB was not originally compatible with the G3258 CPU the new bIOS should be (new version 2303 issued on 27/05/15).

So my situation now is;
i7 works in both machines fine and all the components work

G3258 works in my main machine fine and everything works

I have upgraded the BIOS in the testbed to the latest which should be compatible with the G3258

In the testbed with the G3258 and upgraded bios I cannot get to post. I have tried re-setting the CMOS with the new CPU and BIOS but it didn't make a difference.

Both systems are running Win7 64 bit with 8gb ram.

Any suggestions?

I've figured it out.

Browsing the Asus download page I noticed a utility called bios updater for gen 4th intel. I installed this on the testbed machine and re-installed the bios update using the utility. Whilst there I also updated the chipset drivers to the latest.

I don't know specifically which one worked but the machine is booting fine now.

Problem solved.

Thanks for reading.
