Cannot get Ubuntu to Install

What hardware do you have? Ubuntu wouldn't install on my system either (abit p35-e and 8800gt) - even after lots of tinkering and with both cd versions. Have you tried the alt cd yet?

As above. We need a bit more info to help you out. What'd it do to indicate that it'd failed? Will the LiveCD boot? Does it install but not function later? Does it freeze before booting the LiveCD?

Also couldn't install from Ubuntu live CD, 32 and 64 bit.

32 Bit would crash at end of install and 64 bit would get to a kernel panic, something about machine not syncing.

To get them to that stage I pressed F6 at the boot menu and then removed the word quiet from the command line and changed splash to nosplash.

Still looking for possible solutions to get it to the live desktop environment.

Any more suggestions would also be appreciated here, I am also a Linux noob:(.

I would settle for getting to the live desktop on just 1 p35 chipset..:D

Best thing is I tried it on a PC at work and it booted first time with absolutely no trouble at all.

All up and running perfectly.

Read somewhere on the net that the P35 chipset is supported with kernel Versions from 2.6.21 and up.

But to be quite honest that doesn't mean a whole lot to me.

Managed to boot into the Ubuntu 64 bit live cd environment and am typing from there now.:p

This is on a P35 based board as per my sig, may be of some interest to other P35 based mobo owners.

What I did:

1 Press F6 at boot menu then down arrow to select safe graphics option
2 Remove the word quiet from the command line
3 Change splash to nosplash
4 Added the commands irqpoll and acpi=off

This is what worked for me, although I had tried multiple combos of bios settings and various commands to reach this point.

Will need to look into getting it installed on the hard drive now.

Thanks for all the advice. Will no doubt require lots more assistance.

****** Also just tried it again without the safe graphics option and it still worked. This method also worked to boot into the Kubuntu 64 bit live cd environment.:D
