A few days ago my Pc downloaded a new automatic update for Windows 7 Home but it won't install it.

When I try to shut down the PC, it appears to be installing the updates but when I came back to check about 8 hours later, it still said it was installing them. I assume something is not right because updates usually take about 30 seconds to install.

Any ideas?

if you run windows update again you should see the 'installing updates' icon in your system tray, if you click it you should see details of the updates attempting to be installed, if you could find out which updates you are having problems with it may help trouble shoot it

Here are the details of the update:

Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB976098)

Download size: 482 KB

You may need to restart your computer for this update to take effect.

Update type: Important

Install this update to resolve issues caused by revised daylight saving time and time zone laws in several countries. This update enables your computer to automatically adjust the computer clock on the correct date in 2009. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer.

I ran chkdsk but it found no errors and the update still won't install.
