Cannot put my WHS to sleep remotely

Hey all,

Small problem which i just cannot find a solution for. I recently built a small server using an old pc and it works great running WHS 2011. I have tried the Lights out add-in and it does work when scheduled - ie bring out of sleep and send back to sleep.

However i dont want my server running 24/7 and i only want the server up and running at various times and as such lights out is no good for me as i never know when i will want the server on (media sharing).

Now i managed to download a small "Magic packet sender" program which wakes the server fine - but how the hell can i send it back to sleep????

I have tried the Autoexit add-in, but that will only shut the server down and not into sleep - thus the WOL wont then work?

Does anyone have any ideas? - The server will be going into the garage hence the need for remote sleep.

This might help. These instructions should set your system up to remain active while your PCs in the house are on, otherwise it will standby.

WOL should work when the server is shut down. Is it definitely properly shut down and not in a sleep state? I actually found WOL to be more unreliable in the various sleep/hibernation states than when it is properly shut down.
