Evening All,

WD 1TB 2.5" External USB Hard Drive

  • The drive is detected in My Computer, spins as usual, however can hear the drive clicking.
  • Navigates quite freely through the folder structure and can see all the files (mainly photos), however thumbnails take a long time to show.
  • Copy and paste of folders starts and then fails by the copy/paste window just closing.
  • Robocopy through cmd works, however many of the files return error codes.
Given that the drive is clicking and I cannot robustly remove the data from it, is there anything else I can do or does it need to be sent off?

Also any recommendations for data recovery specialists?

Thanks

however can hear the drive clicking.

Once this happens chances are anyone will struggle to get data off the drive and usually needs it to be sent away for professional recovery if the data is valuable.

Maybe just maybe, you could try to take an image of the drives partition and then read the data from raw data. I did this before with a clicking drive it just took longer to make the image at first.

I was about to say the same thing, image the drive if possible, it'll probably finish the drive off lol, however once you have that data you could at least save it then...
