I have set up my fingerprints to unlock my S6 but after I either shut down or restart the fingerprint option doesnt work and I have to type in my password and it gives the message "enter password instead of fingerprint after restarting device to protect fingerprints"
What am I doing wrong
Thanks

I assume the S6 on Marshmallow is using Imprint which requires the password after turning on or after a restart. The fingerprint method used by Samsung on Lollipop was their own not androids which didn't have this requirement by the sounds of it.

It's a new thing for Marshmallow, after a restart you need to enter back up pin/password/pattern as a security measure

but I thought using your fingerprint was the security measure and using it unlocked the phone and the password was supposed to be a backup

I'm using a 6P and have the same, the finger print is only used to unlock if the phone has already been on and the screen locked, every boot up you have to enter your PIN.

Seems reasonable security to me, it's not much of an inconvenience after all?

Its a new feature for Marshmallow, my work Z5 is the same after the update.

iOS is the same for the iPhone after a restart.

That explains it I thought it was to unlock the phone after switching on, I would have thought it would be more secure than swiping
Thanks
