Hi all,

Looking to purchase a DSLR in the next few days. I've been doing quite a bit of research but am still not quite certain on what I want to go for.

Canon EOS 1300D Digital SLR + EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II Lens - £330
Canon EOS 100D Digital SLR + 18-55mm IS STM Lens - £309

All of the shops seem to be advertising the 1300D as the beginner camera and the older 100D isn't mentioned too much. Though some people seem to recommend the 100D with its touch screen. My hands aren't exactly small so I might find that the 100D is just too tiny, but putting that aside for the moment.

The 100D has the STM lens and that is the main reason I'm leaning towards it over the 1300D which does not have the STM.

In addition I was thinking of getting a Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM (£165) as would like to try out some wide angle pictures.

Any thoughts please :)?

For what it's worth I had a 100D that I got for my wife (and an excuse to buy a second body) but she didn't use it much. Fantastic little camera. The specs on the 100D are generally better, don't think the 1300 has live view and a touchscreen. Sensor and IQ should be generally speaking the same.

I personally would go for the 100D, try pop into a shop to see how you get on with it from an ergonomics point of view (I had no issues with it at all) and the small size might actually be a bonus as combined with a pancake prime lens it makes for a nice semi portable system. So features wise combined with the slightly better lens (especially for video, STM is quiet and gives you continuous focusing ability) it comes down to ergonomics, if you are happy with how the 100D handles it seems like a no brainer.

The 100D is suppose to be a pretty small body, so maybe if you can get yourself to a store and handle them if the 100D is still in shops? I've not personally handled a 100D so couldn't tell you how small it is though. How tall are you?
