Canon 1D MKII specs released

interesting, it is nice to get your reasons, I can't decide if AF point are the new mega pixels!

The number of AF points is not super critical, more important is accuracy, speed, tracking continuous AF etc.

We wont know what real improvements Canon has done before these get properly field tested but there doesn't seem to be much difference to the 1DX.

I kind of agree with Jase, not a particular big jump but we have to see what that sensor can really do. maybe the sensor gives 1 stop more clean high ISO shots and 1-2 stops better base ISO.

18->20MP is not noticeable.
12->14FPS is not noticeable.

I think it all rests on the sensor.

It's all well and good having loads of AF points but if they don't cover the whole frame it's a bit pointless.

I think people get bogged down in specs and stats instead of real world performance. Canon have lagged behind in sensor performance for a while now, hopefully the new models will address that.

One thing of concern is it seems Canon has pushed the video side of things a lot more than stills. I am happy with the AF of current line up but it's the same again. It's like the same AF between 5D1 and 5D2.
We need a decent independant review the sensor really is going to make or break this camera they have been lagging that little bit behind for too long it's been a while since a canon product has had that real WOW factor on release.

Why do so many of them appear to be rubbish... Unlike the Sutton brothers. Maybe the Sutton brothers fall under professionals.

A lot of them aren't photographers though, they work for a newspaper and get given a camera with minimal raining on how to use it. They turn up to events to right a story and will also take photos. Or even if they are dedicated photographer they probably aren't actually very good, they will be some graduate with an arts degree or someone who did a photography course at college.

if someone is generally a fantastic photographer they probably wont ant to work for most newspaper and media agencies, unless they are the NY time or Nat geo etc.

There are a few exceptions,e g. very good wedding photographers that will do PJ work to have a sustain income year round.

The 1DX sensor was pretty decent.

I am also worried about Canon concentrating ion video too much with these DSLRs.

I'm not too fussed about AF points to be honest, having them spread out over the whole frame is more important.

Also scratching my head also as to why video aspect has been so focused upon.

Very keen to see how it performs in the DR stakes, may give a hint of how well the 5Dmk4 will perform in DR. Secretly, I'm wishing Canon just swallow their pride and go with a Sony sensor in the 5Dmk4. As you can tell, I'm not feeling particularly optimistic about what Canon will be pulling out of the bag. :D

Canon are damn odd. They seem to be aiming it at the pro video market but with the lack of 4K external out, it will surely turn the majority away to look else where.

They have internal conflicts because if they make their video DSLR too good then they loose sales form their actual video cameras.

I think what they are trying to do is add enough headlines feature to get people excited abut the video aspects as a tick box features, and any one who really cares about video will simply get a dedicated video camera which they hope is a canon.

Lots more af points at f8 is very welcome as a wildlife shooter. Better af acquisition and tracking, which is already great on the 1DX, is also very welcome.

Otherwise looks more evolution than revolution with lots of little improvements here and there.

Personally don't care for video, gps or touchscreen.

Rouse did switch from Nikon so Canon must be doing something right because at the end of the day his livelihood and rep is built on the photos he takes.

The key point of that is his livelihood, Canon would have and do offer better deals as part of their ambassador programme. Honestly the rep he gets from the photos he takes is not dependant on the camera/brand he uses but more the situation he puts himself in and his knowledge.

Too many of the pros that are in the media and well known just move brands when it benefits them to do so which is why I take anything they say with a pinch of salt. At the end of the day these Pros could take amazing images whether they use a Canon, Nikon, Sony or whatever.

Nikon would call the 1DXII a 1DXs, e.g. its like the change form D4 to D4s, evolution to a new generation.

Do you know if Rouse was paid by Canon or not? Most of the times we hear about a big name photographer changing brands is all down to the $$$$

I've no idea if he was paid by Canon (iirc reading one of his blogs when he switched they approached him to try a 1DX) but I'm sure any brand would pony up to have someone as an ambassador. You'd have to ask Mr Rouse for a definitive answer on that one but quite frankly I don't see that it matters.
