Canon 50mm f1.8

I should be getting one of these delivered tomorrow so I shall post up my comparison shots between the kit lens and this one.

I am hoping its gonna be good, especially in low light.

Ooops! Sorrry!!!!

Completely forgot to take comparision photo's, I am waiting for my tripod anyway so it would be hard to take the exact same image.

If my tripod arrives today or tomorrow (It's meant to be a good day tomorrow), I will try and post some.

I do have a few images that I took yesterday if you want to see them.

Think I'm the odd one out here. I've tried REALLY hard to like the nifty, to the extent that I've bought three different copies, each time I've sold it again. It just doesn't suit anything I do.

There's nothing wrong with it, just not for me.

A little late in this response but anyway....

While I think the 50 F1.8 is a nice lens, especailly for the money, it is probably my least used lens. The main reason that I keep it is that it is a fantastic basketball lens when I am shooting from the baseline. Otherwise there are many other lenses that can perform the same role as the 50 on a croped sensor camera (probably not for the price though). I think the thing missing from the 1.8 is the smooth bokeh, especially in high contrast areas, which make it less desirable then some of the other short to normal primes in the canon (and third party) range.

Here are some pics I took yesterday using the 50mm on my 350D. They have been played about a bit in photoshop, but I know my kit lens couldn't produce photo's as good as the 50mm.

Oh go on then.....

Hang on a bit, I've got both. I'll do a couple of comp. shots for you....

I got a shot of what it can do under fire (what you can expect actually shooting a demanding job).

I think it is at F3.2 and ISO 1600 pushed half a stop in post. Not the best shot ever, but about par for shapness and focus acuracy in AI-servo.

Not ideal subject matter, but it gives you an idea.

/edit

Although looking at them side by side here, I can't see a lot of difference
